FAQS

Here are answers to some common questions.

  • What are your business hours?

9 to 5 Monday through Friday! Only available on weekends? Leave us a message and we will do our best to get back to accomodate your schedule.

  • What is your return policy?

All items are made completely custom for each of our clients.  Because of this, all orders are unable to be returned or refunded once the order has been finalized.

  • What type of payment methods do you accept?

We take cash, checks, and electronic banks transfers for all projects.  Clients are also able to pay via debit or credit card for an additional 3% fee.

  • How long does it take to have an item made by a custom woodworking shop?

Our normal turnaround time is anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks from the date the order was place OR completion of final design (whichever comes last).  This can fluctuate depending on the size of project and the time of year in which the order is placed. Please reach out to an Art & Function representative for the most up-to-date lead times for your project.

  • How much does it cost to hire a custom woodworking shop?

Our staff works on a large cariety of projects, from kitchen and bathroom renovations, to office wall units and entertainment systems, to highly custom furniture and decorative pieces.  Because of this, it is impossible to say exactly how much it will cost to hire a woodworker for your project without receiving a customized estimate from a qualified representative.

  • What are the benefits of hiring a custom woodworking shop?

There are many benefits to hiring a custom woodworking shop, including:

-Getting exactly the piece of furniture, cabinet, etc that you would like without having to compromise on size or aesthetic

-Avoiding the mass-produced look and low quality of many items sold in stores

-Working with skilled craftsmen who can create unique, one-of-a-kind pieces

-Supporting local businesses and the economy

  • Do you have any advice for someone who is thinking about starting a woodworking project?

My best advice would be to take your time and measure twice (or even three times!) before making any cuts. A little extra time and effort at the beginning of a project can save you a lot of frustration later on.

  • How do I know if a custom woodworking shop is right for me?

If you have specific ideas in mind for a piece of furniture or other item, and you want it to be made with high quality materials and construction, then a custom woodworking shop is likely a good fit for you. If you are willing to work with the woodworker to develop your ideas and communicate your vision, you will be able to get exactly what you want.  Even if you don't want something incredibly specific, you will often find greater longevity from a custom made piece than something pre-fabricated .

  • Do you have any tips for choosing the right type of wood for a project?

There are a few things to keep in mind when choosing wood for a project: hardness, stability, and grain pattern. Hardness is important if the piece will be subject to a lot of wear and tear; you'll want something that won't dent or scratch easily. Stability is key if the piece will be exposed to changes in temperature or humidity; you don't want the wood to warp or crack. And finally, the grain pattern can add a lot of visual interest to a piece, so it's worth considering what kind of effect you're going for.
